First day coaching in Zimbabwe
Monday 22nd July 2024
By Bess Turpin
Today was our first full day in Zimbabwe, thankfully we were treated with a much needed lie in, 7.30am !! Breakfast was delicious with a range of food including avocado, eggs, toast, fruit and porridge. All full up, we hoped on the bus to our first morning of community projects which was at an old peoples home where we were greeted by an one hundred and eleven year old lady. We were split into groups which were given various tasks such as painting, brick laying and litter picking. I was tasked with removing plaster off a room wall in prep for it to be painted. We meticulously scraped plaster off the walls until the bare brick was exposed. After this hard work we had lunch and moved straight on to coaching which was hard in the beating sun but was very rewarding. After 2 hours of coaching we returned to Sizinda camp for a quiet evening of games, a beautiful sunset and drums around the campfire.
Mum, Dad, Alex I am having an amazing time - but still missing you all lots, have an amazing time at Harlequin, take lots of photos

Today we all got to have a pleasant lie in till 7.00am which I think everyone was happy about. We then got into groups and went to build, paint, litter pick at the care home. My group got to paint today which was quite satisfying and good practice for when I force my parents to re paint my room in the summer.
We met a 111yr old woman who was very sweet. In the afternoon, we then split back up into groups and went to different schools to help teach students tag Rugby. Me and Megan S had lots of fun in a pair and enjoyed playing sharkey sharkey (version of bulldog) with all the children. We then had a very relaxed evening and sat by the campfire to dance and sing with our team leaders. Although I am having a great time I miss my Mum, Dad, Harry very much and can't wait to see you and show you all the photos I have taken. Have a great time in Barcelona !!

Hi Jack, apologies for taking so long to write a post (you know I rely on you when it comes to technology!). We LOVE reading this blog each day and checking out all of the wonderful photos (it literally gives me goosebumps and fills my heart each time I see a new blog posted).
ReplyDeleteYou made Millie’s year with her birthday message last Wednesday! We all miss and love you so much! Maisie still says “Jack” at least 10 times a day! (it sounds like all of her 5:30am early starts you helped with, turned out to be good training for this trip!)
The drumming and dance off videos were a treat to watch this evening! Great to see you all letting your hair down after the long days working so hard in the sun.
Lots of love
Mum, Dad, Millie and Maisie
