Tuesday 30th July 2024

Tuesday 30th July 2024  By Juliana Myers  Hello it's Juliana here in Fawlty Towers. Today was our last day in Zambia, I have really enjoyed my time and all the memories I have made. We started off our day with a delicious breakfast of toast, eggs, beans and sausages. Then headed off to the place where we began our Safari, we were put into groups of 7 and 8 and set off in our Safari Trucks. Although it was pretty cold, it was one of the best experiences of my life. We saw Elephants, Giraffes, Monkeys, Hippos and Gazelles, just to name a few, it was incredible. But best of all we saw the last few White Rhinos left in Zambia. We paused for a quick stop for our Fanta and rusks whilst watching out for Crocodiles in the Zambezi River. Then hoped back on our trucks for a quick windy ride back to the hotel.  We had a late lunch at a Café called Zest. I had Margarita Pizza, which I really enjoyed. Then came back for free time which I went to the shops and swimming pool....

Megan Evans Hello everyone! It's Megan Evans here and I'm here to fill you in on what we did today. But first I have to say what an amazing trip we have had so far! From the gorgeous sunsets, seeing lots and lots of giraffes and extremely sugary Fanta's, Zambia is truly incredible! So, this morning we had a cracking lie in with breakfast at 8, which consisted of toast, basked beans, scrambled egg and sausages. Then watched some Olympic in the bar before hopping on the mini bus to Victoria Falls! Before we had even got off the mini buses, we saw a group of baboons - you wouldn't get that in Esher! Then we started our trek into the Zambian jungle down to the falls. It was picturesque scenery the whole way down and when we got to the rocks at the bottom we could see the waterfall in all it's glory. One of the seven natural wonders of the world before our very own eyes. We watched some very brave bungee jumpers and took lots of pics. Then made our way back up and did a...

Sunday 28th July  By Jess Collier  Today was a lovely relaxed day. We had a calm start with a delicious breakfast at 8am. We gathered our Kwacha and headed off to the market to all buy the exact same thing ( Tiki Heads). We split into pairs and all had a go at bargaining our way into cheaper prices. I walked out satisfied with my purchases such as my matching earrings with Elodie and then headed back for lunch from the supermarket opposite. My friends and I spent a sunny few hours in and out of the pool.  At two we ventured to Makuni Village to take part in traditions when we visited the town palace, such as kneeling and clapping when entering and leaving the room. In the room there was a shrine consisting of elephant tusks and paintings of Lions. In addition we met the Prime Minister of the area. After a small walk and a short visit to another market we surprised the local Rugby team with many donations and Rugby training kit from Ram Rugby. It warmed my heart when...

Final Tournament and Boat Trip

Image
Saturday 27th July 2024 By Arthur Bateman  First night back in Zambia after coming back from Zimbabwe. The accommodation is called Fawlty Towers (Yes, it is named after the TV show) and it is epic! Breakfast was a full fry up of eggs, beans, sausages and tomatoes, which was delicious. Then we made our way to our last tournament. However, one of the buses ferrying the children to the tournament crashed. Luckily only the driver was onboard as it was returning and he was safe. This meant the tournament was only an hour and a half long. However, we still had lots of fun and I made friends with all the children from the Jesus Christ Community Club.  After the tournament we returned to Fawlty Towers and chilled by the pool. I shared a Pizza for lunch, and then at 3pm we got on the minibuses to the river cruise. The boat was amazing. From huge Crocodiles and Hippos (don't fall in) to Elephants and arguably the greatest sunset I have ever seen. Honestly in describable with words...

By Martha Green Today was our last day in Zimbabwe which involved a tournament that allowed us to see all the kids we've been coaching over the past week in action being competitive against each other. Me and a group of friends got up bright and early to watch the sunrise of the last day of Zimbabwe. It was beautiful with everyone around the fire pit wrapped up in blankets watching it together, it was a surreal moment. We had a quick breakfast then headed to the venue for the tournament. I was given the job of team manager which meant spending the day organising and supporting the team I'd coached and selected.  Throughout the week I've become close to many of the kids and so watching them reach the semi-final was a proud moment to say the least. We went back to camp and had a quick turn around before going to cross the border back to Zambia. This involve a 2km trek which proved quite difficult in the blazing midday heat with a massive backpack on (thanks a lot Dad). We ar...

Thursday 25th July 2024

By Charles Guyett Stargazed tonight. I don't think I've ever seen so many stars, they were all in random clusters and pairs, the sky was beautiful. We slept on the field just looking up. Woke up at 6am for the sunrise. We went to coach the children at 7:30, arrived at 7:45 and did 2 hours of hard work, we went to the nursing home to help paint and clean new and old buildings. Happy Birthday Bailey and Esme. After the nursing home, we went to camp and our bus broke down. Afterwards, we had sausages and rice for dinner which reminded me of home. Today was great and I can't wait for tomorrow. By Oscar Fordyce I woke up at around 6:30 after a night of stargazing with most of the group in our sleeping bags, I had a warm shower before breakfast, which was porridge and eggs on toast which was pretty good. My coaching group and I set off around 8:30 on the minibus for the last training session before the tournament. On arrival the kids all seemed delighted to see us. We set out the...

23rd and 24th July 2024 - Zim Coaching and Community Work

Image
23rd July 2024 By Olivia Scharinger Today, after we got ready, we had breakfast (which was so yummy) and then a couple of groups went to the old peoples home, whilst the others, including  mine, went to do training. The first group was normal, but for the second, we had load of children so me and a couple of others had to play games with some of them.  It was actually really fun. At the end, we also met a really cute 4 year old boy who gave us all hugs. After training, we all had lunch at the old peoples home, which was nice.  Then some groups left to do training whilst mine and some others stayed.  My group was doing painting, which I thought was really fun and satisfying.  It was really hot though so we went to sit inside for a bit.  When we finished, we all went back to the campsite, had showers and chilled for a bit before going out to dinner. Dinner was the best thing ever!  When we got there, the place was really nice and so was the music....

First day coaching in Zimbabwe

Image
Monday 22nd July 2024  By Bess Turpin  Today was our first full day in Zimbabwe, thankfully we were treated with a much needed lie in, 7.30am !! Breakfast was delicious with a range of food including avocado, eggs, toast, fruit and porridge. All full up, we hoped on the bus to our first morning of community projects which was at an old peoples home where we were greeted by an one hundred and eleven year old lady. We were split into groups which were given various tasks such as painting, brick laying and litter picking. I was tasked with removing plaster off a room wall in prep for it to be painted. We meticulously scraped plaster off the walls until the bare brick was exposed. After this hard work we had lunch and moved straight on to coaching which was hard in the beating sun but was very rewarding. After 2 hours of coaching we returned to Sizinda camp for a quiet evening of games, a beautiful sunset and drums around the campfire.  Mum, Dad, Alex I am having an ama...
